Marco Columbro Embraces New Beginnings After Health Crisis

The iconic Italian TV host redefines his path with love and entrepreneurship far from the spotlight.

Marco Columbro, once the face of Italian television, has undergone significant changes both personally and professionally since the early 2000s. Known for his charismatic presence and engaging performances, Columbro’s life took a dramatic turn following his battle with serious health issues.

Columbro, born in Viareggio, Italy, on June 7, 1950, was recognized for his work on popular television programs such as Buona Domenica and Paperissima. His dynamic partnership with Lorella Cuccarini made him a household name during the 1990s, leading to numerous appearances on various Mediaset shows. Columbro also branched out as an actor, featuring prominently in several successful TV dramas.

Tragically, his flourishing career faced adversity when he suffered from an aneurysm in 2001. The incident occurred unexpectedly at the Samteng Ling Tibetan monastery, where he was found unconscious and remained in a coma for nearly 20 days. Upon awakening, he faced the arduous task of rehabilitation, relearning basic skills such as walking and speaking. Reflecting on this period, Columbro stated, “I had to learn everything anew, as if I were born again.” The health scare turned out to be fortuitous, as it led to the discovery of the aneurysm before it proved fatal.

Despite successfully overcoming his health issues, the television industry he once dominated moved on without him. Columbro experienced disillusionment after being sidelined, noting, “I was at my peak when I fell ill, and yet, I felt forgotten.” The sector's quick dismissal left him contemplating his place within it and spurring him to pursue new avenues beyond the limelight.

Most recently, Columbro has shifted his focus from television to entrepreneurship and journalism. “I’ve stepped back from show business without any regrets,” he remarked. He is now passionately involved with Business24, where he discusses green products and features Italian entrepreneurs. “There are great stories to tell about Italian innovators,” he asserts, demonstrating enthusiasm for his current pursuits.

Personal reinvention has also characterized Columbro's life; he is now romantically involved with actress Marzia Risaliti. The couple’s relationship blossomed from their shared theatrical passions. They met during rehearsals for one of his plays, leading Columbro to pursue his interest persistently. “I played hard to get, but eventually asked her out,” he laughs, recalling their budding romance. Their mutual love for performing arts has tethered their lives together, and they now co-manage a quaint three-star hotel, the Locanda Vesuna, set amid the serene landscapes of Val d’Orcia.

Columbro and Risaliti, deeply committed to each other, enjoy running their business together. Risaliti, trained not just as an actress but also possessing skills in various artistic disciplines, plans to transform their hotel workspace by introducing cultural and artistic initiatives. “She’s intelligent, sunny, and humble,” Columbro shares, and their bond continues to grow strong.

The former television star has also experienced heartbreak. Before Risaliti, Columbro was involved with Stefania Santini for over a decade. Their relationship ended amicably, marked by mutual respect and the establishment of friendship. Santini shared her sentiments publicly through a letter, expressing appreciation for the years they shared together and the support they provided each other during challenging times, particularly during Columbro’s health crisis.

Columbro’s past with Santini has transformed, moving from romantic partners to partners-in-business as they jointly manage their wellness resort, the Locanda Vesuna. The couple enjoyed their time together as partners, promoting wellness and healing, marking his desire to engage with positive life experiences following years of turmoil.

Columbro’s career and personal life narrative comprises layers of resilience and transformation. His professional decline didn't diminish his spirit but rather inspired him to redefine his life priorities. The transition from being one of Italy's most beloved television personalities to focusing on wellness, personal growth, and art highlights his dynamic character. He’s forged new paths away from television, marking his reinvention with the same vigor he once brought to the screen.

With nearly 75 years behind him yet vibrant passion for life and newfound ventures, Marco Columbro continues to explore life beyond the silver screen. His story is one of resilience, redemption, and rebirth, reflecting how life’s adversities shape growth and new beginnings.
