Greece Sees Innovations In Tech And Women's Empowerment

Mercedes-Benz and Suzy Levian lead initiatives to revolutionize battery technology and support women entrepreneurs.

Greece has recently seen several noteworthy events focused on technology, women's empowerment, and community engagement.

Mercedes-Benz has begun tests for solid-state batteries, considered the next major breakthrough in battery technology. This innovative system was developed at the Mercedes-Benz Center of Competence for Battery Systems. Markus Schafer, Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes-Benz, mentioned these batteries were thought by many to be unnecessary due to significant advancements found within conventional lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, he affirmed their continued investment and development, underscoring the potential benefits, including increased energy density, longevity, safety, and quicker charging.

Interestingly, the Mercedes solid-state battery reportedly offers up to 25% increased autonomy over standard batteries of similar size, promising up to 1,000 kilometers of range. Although the solid-state batteries are still years away from mass production, the company has commenced rigorous testing.

Shifting focus, the spotlight also fell on Suzy Levian, founder of Suzy Levian New York, who announced her new venture named Empever. This initiative aims to provide financial support and guidance to women entrepreneurs, especially significant during Women's History Month. Levian has taken it upon herself to dismantle financial barriers faced by women and help them thrive through grants, mentorship programs, and networking opportunities.

She states, “During the challenges of starting my business and raising my six children, I drew strength from the faith of all the women who supported me and believed in my success. Now, I want to do the same for others.” This initiative goes beyond financial assistance, offering women resources across various industries to help them start or expand their businesses.

On another note, the Peloponnese Regional Youth Council held its first meeting, emphasizing the importance of youth voices. Regional Governor Dimitris Ptochos provided insights on the significance of this initiative, inviting young people to take part actively and voice their concerns and aspirations for the future. He remarked, “Your participation is decisive. It is your responsibility to make proposals, to express ideas and influence our future.”

The council comprises 90 regular and deputy members from general and professional high schools throughout the region, focusing on pressing topics such as climate change and resource management. The council meetings will continue across various cities, ending with presentations of their findings.

These initiatives reflect Greece's commitment to innovation, social welfare, and community involvement across multiple sectors.
