The contract was ceremonially signed in Koblenz by Annett Lehningk-Emden, the head of the German Military Procurement Agency, and Oliver Burkhard, the CEO of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. This move is expected to positively affect the financial flow for the company during the current fiscal year through initial payments supporting the project's various stages.
The Type 212CD submarines are developed to significantly advance from the existing 212A class, featuring improvements aimed at situational awareness, interoperability with allied forces, and reduced detectability. Burkhard noted, "We are witnessing a historic transformation in the naval sector, and we are proud of the trust the German government has placed in us by awarding this additional submarine order."
