The Eiffel Tower has unveiled an exhilarating new attraction, allowing visitors to cross a suspension bridge suspended 60 meters above the ground between its north and south pillars. Officially titled "Vertige de la Tour," this remarkable feature is set to remain open until March 9, 2025, and is poised to offer guests not just a unique perspective but also the thrill of experiencing France's tallest urban bridge.
Operated by Arboricorde, known for their expertise in such installations, this bridge measures 40 meters long and is crafted with safety as a priority. Boasting two layers of protective netting, constructed from 25,000 mesh sections, the bridge can withstand over 30,000 kg/m² of weight. This makes it the highest urban suspension bridge ever installed and definitely not for those suffering from vertigo. Children under 12 must accompany an adult, reinforcing safety protocols.
To participate, visitors must register for time slots by scanning QR codes available at the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, either at the terrace or inside the bistro. The attraction provides 15-minute time slots for groups of up to eight, but only four people can traverse the bridge simultaneously. Visitors are encouraged to be on time, as any delays can affect the experience for others. Notably, no strollers, luggage, food, drinks, or high heels are permitted on the walking surface, ensuring everyone can enjoy the crossing safely.
The unique experience has quickly caught the attention of tourists, creating lines of adventurers who wish to walk high above the ground and take advantage of the stunning views. According to LP/Philippe Lavieille, about 1,500 visitors attempt this bridge crossing each day. "We didn’t even know this bridge existed! It’s amazing to take advantage of this opportunity,” shouted one family visiting from Maine-et-Loire as they emerged from the elevator, surprised and excited to discover the bridge.
Inside the queue, one visitor, Margarita from Italy, expressed her nerves, stating, "I didn’t feel scared at all when I was at the bottom. Now, it’s another story!" She and her friends were celebrating her 19th birthday, and the timing of their visit couldn't have been more perfect—with the sun shining, they were determined to brave the bridge after deciding to postpone their visit the previous day due to bad weather.
Every day brings various groups to the attraction, some of whom are there for the thrill, others for the beautiful view of Paris from such unique angles. The bridge provides awe-inspiring vistas of not just the Tower itself but also its surroundings, transforming each crossing to feel like stepping back to awe-inspiring heights.
Camille Merlet, operations manager at Arbotopia, is responsible for ensuring visitor safety on the bridge. "We remind guests to keep their distance, do not run or jump, and to keep moving to avoid blocking other visitors. It's all about keeping safe and enjoying the experience. Surprisingly, kids handle the heights much less anxiously than their parents!" This atmosphere of excitement is palpable as visitors prepare to take the leap—quite literally—over the iconic Parisian landmark.
The bridge undoubtedly adds to the unique and multidimensional experience offered by the Eiffel Tower, attracting thrill-seekers and those wishing to capture stunning photographs of the city below. For many, this crossing is not just about walking over; it’s about conquering their fears and savoring the beauty of Paris from unprecedented heights.
For those hesitant about crossing, stories from past participants provide encouragement and perspective. "It’s super impressive! When it moves, you feel like you’re floating. I’m still shaky, but it was worth it!" said one father accompanying his son, contrasting his initial fear with the joy of reaching the midpoints of the crossing, where the views are breathtaking.
This amazing blend of thrills and remarkable design continues to capture the hearts of locals and tourists alike, bringing life back to one of the most recognized structures of the world. The Eiffel Tower, already famous for its stunning views, now offers yet another adventure, proving every visitor can experience this monument from new heights. The Ellis Tower remains committed to innovation and excitement, showcasing Paris’s dedication to enriching the visitor experience.
