Boston University Triumphs In Multiple Athletic Events

From women's lacrosse to men's basketball, BU showcases stellar performances and key victories.

The Boston University women’s lacrosse team showcased their offensive prowess with a decisive 17-6 victory over the Merrimack Warriors on Wednesday evening at Nickerson Field, improving their record to 4-2. This marked their second consecutive win, reaffirming their competitive edge within the Patriot League.

Junior Jayne Feeney was instrumental, scoring four goals and contributing significantly to the Terriers’ explosive offensive effort. The team took control of the game early, pulling away from the Warriors after initially trading goals. According to Boston Athletics, “The Terriers evened it up shortly after, as sophomore Izabella Amonte scored with 11:36 remaining in the first.” This goal set the tone for the rest of the match.

The first half saw BU build momentum as they led 11-2 at halftime, thanks to multiple contributions from key players, including Amonte, who scored twice more before the intermission. The second half continued the Terriers’ dominance, and three players achieved hat tricks—Feeney, Amonte, and Tessa Geddes. Notably, Geddes reached the milestone of 10 goals for the season, showcasing BU's depth as one of only two Patriot League teams with multiple players scoring over 10.

While the Terriers excelled at scoring, they also demonstrated impressive control of the field. They dominated draw controls, winning 17 to Merrimack’s 10, significantly aiding their offensive and defensive strategies. Freshman Alex Kucharz not only made her first career start but also registered two goals and one assist, marking her remarkable debut.

Moving to men’s basketball, the Boston University Terriers faced off against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at Stabler Arena on February 26, 2025. This matchup was significant as it was billed as “Box Out Cancer,” highlighting the collaboration between Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. With this victory, Boston U. secured a top six seed and first-round bye for the upcoming Patriot League tournament, reflecting their successful season.

The game was marked by notable performances, particularly from Lehigh's Tyler Whitney-Sidney and Nasir Whitlock, who both achieved career highs, scoring 32 and 24 points, respectively. “We had opportunities to go up, we missed them, and they made some tough plays,” remarked Lehigh head coach Dr. Brett Reed. This highlights the competitive nature of college basketball, where each possession can alter the outcome.

Despite Lehigh’s scoring drought at the beginning of the game, Whitney-Sidney quickly responded with individual performances. The Terriers initially surged to an 8-0 lead, but Lehigh fought back, maintaining pressure throughout the game. By halftime, BU led 36-28, having effectively utilized their offensive strategy.

Lehigh remained within reach throughout the second half, narrowing the gap to just two points late in the game. Unfortunately for them, Boston U. answered with key shots, including a clutch three-pointer by senior Miles Brewster. “[Tyler and Nasir] carried us a great deal,” Reed noted, emphasizing the importance of their contributions.

Overall, both the Boston University women’s lacrosse and men’s basketball teams have shown promising growth and potential as they head toward the latter stages of their respective seasons. With games coming up against Army West Point—closing the regular season for men’s basketball and marking another challenge for women’s lacrosse—it will be important for both teams to maintain this momentum. Fans are encouraged to support their teams as they compete for playoff positioning and continue their legacies within collegiate athletics.
