Victoria Beckham Breaks Silence On Brooklyn Family Rift

The designer and pop star addresses the estrangement from her eldest son as allegations and counterclaims continue to swirl around the Beckham family.

After months of swirling rumors, cryptic social media posts, and public statements, the rift between Victoria Beckham and her eldest son, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, has finally been addressed by the former Spice Girl herself. In an interview published April 16, 2026, with WSJ. Magazine, Victoria, 51, was candid—but measured—when asked about her family’s ongoing estrangement from Brooklyn. Notably, she declined to mention her son by name, stating simply, “I think that we’ve always—we love our children so much.” She continued, “We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.” According to BBC News, this marks Victoria’s first public response since Brooklyn went public with his grievances earlier this year.

The family feud burst into public view in January 2026, when Brooklyn, now 27, posted a lengthy and emotional statement on Instagram. In it, he accused his parents of trying to sabotage his relationship with his wife, actress Nicola Peltz Beckham, and of prioritizing “Brand Beckham” over genuine family love. “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into,” Brooklyn wrote, as reported by People and E! News. He declared, “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Brooklyn’s accusations were both personal and pointed. Among them: that his parents pressured and attempted to bribe him into signing away the rights to his name before his wedding to Nicola in April 2022, that Victoria canceled making Nicola’s wedding dress at the last minute, and that she “hijacked” the couple’s first dance at their lavish Florida ceremony by dancing “very inappropriately” with him in front of 500 guests. “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song,” Brooklyn alleged. “In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me.”

The wedding drama has been hotly debated among those who attended. DJ Fat Tony, who provided music at the event, supported Brooklyn’s account, telling ITV, “Brooklyn’s literally devastated, because he thought he was going to do his first dance with his wife. Then Nicola leaves the room crying her eyes out.” He added, “They do this dance, and Marc Anthony’s like, ‘Go put your hands on your mother’s hips.’ And it was a Latin, you know, Latin thing. And the whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room.” However, singer Marc Anthony himself, who was involved in the wedding festivities, later disputed the characterization, saying the way the events were presented was “hardly the truth,” as noted by BBC News.

Nicola Peltz Beckham, for her part, has been mostly quiet about the drama. She did not wear a Victoria Beckham dress at her wedding, opting for Valentino Couture instead. In an interview with Variety in August 2022, Nicola explained, “I was going to and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress. She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.” Brooklyn echoed her sentiments at the time, telling Variety, “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down. But everyone gets along, which is good.”

Yet, behind the scenes, tensions appear to have simmered. Brooklyn and Nicola have reportedly made efforts to reconcile with the Beckhams, but according to Brooklyn, his wife “has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one.” He added, “We’ve gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show ‘our perfect family.’” Brooklyn also said that since stepping away from his family, he’s found “peace and relief,” and that he and Nicola “do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”

The feud has not only played out in statements but also in family gatherings—or the lack thereof. Nicola was absent from Victoria Beckham’s star-studded 50th birthday party in April 2024, citing her grandmother’s illness and subsequent passing. Brooklyn paid tribute to Nicola’s grandmother in May 2025, marking one year since her death. The couple also skipped David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebration in May 2025, despite reportedly traveling to England in hopes of seeing David that week. Instead, they spent part of the 2024 holidays with the Peltz family, while Victoria, David, and their other children celebrated together. According to E! News, Brooklyn’s absence from these family milestones has only fueled speculation about the depth of the rift.

David Beckham, knighted in November 2025, has not commented directly on the feud but addressed the broader issue of social media and parenting during a CNBC appearance in January 2026. “I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” he said. “I’ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids. You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”

Other family members and friends have weighed in. Chef Gordon Ramsay, a close friend of the Beckhams, urged Brooklyn to “take a moment to yourself and just remember you’re half-mum, half-dad. You’re an amazing young man, but boy, they’ve done more for you than anyone will do in your entire life—any father-in-law, let me tell you.” Brooklyn’s younger brother, Cruz, has also expressed hope for reconciliation, telling TMZ, “I hope so,” when asked if he believed the family could mend fences.

Despite the turmoil, the Beckhams have continued to present a united front in public, at least among the family members still in contact. Photos from Christmas 2024 showed Victoria, David, and their children—including Brooklyn and Nicola—together, with Victoria captioning her post, “Being together for the holidays makes me so happy xxxx I love you all so much.” But by Christmas 2025, Brooklyn and Nicola spent the holiday with her family, and David’s New Year’s recap notably excluded his eldest son and daughter-in-law.

As for legal matters, Brooklyn and Nicola have reportedly hired a lawyer to “set the record straight, combat spread of misinformation,” but sources insist this is not for reputation management, as per E! News. Nicola’s father, Nelson Peltz, was characteristically lighthearted when asked about the drama at a Wall Street Journal event in February 2026, saying, “My daughter and the Beckhams are a whole other story. That’s not for coverage here today, but I’ll tell you my daughter’s great, my son-in-law Brooklyn is great, and I look forward to them having a long, happy marriage together.”

While the public may never know the full truth behind the Beckham family’s rift, one thing remains clear: both sides are standing firm in their versions of events, and for now, reconciliation seems distant. Yet, as with any family drama played out on the world stage, the story is far from over.
