Tommy Fury And Molly-Mae Reunite After Alcohol Struggle

After a turbulent year marked by addiction and heartbreak, the Love Island couple is rebuilding their family and choosing privacy as they share their journey of reconciliation.

Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague, the beloved couple whose romance began on ITV’s Love Island in 2019, have weathered a stormy year that saw them split, confront addiction, and ultimately find their way back to each other. Their story, now laid bare in two emotional documentaries—Tommy’s Tommy: The Good, The Bad, The Fury for BBC Three and Molly-Mae’s Behind It All—has captivated fans and sparked widespread discussion about the pressures of public life, the toll of addiction, and the power of reconciliation.

The couple’s relationship, which seemed picture-perfect to millions of followers, took a dramatic turn in August 2024 when they announced their separation. The news shocked fans who had watched their journey from reality TV sweethearts to parents of their daughter, Bambi, and celebrated their engagement just a year earlier. But behind the social media gloss, Tommy was fighting a private battle that threatened to unravel everything.

According to the BBC documentary, Tommy Fury admitted to drinking “20 shots a night” and consuming alcohol to the point of blackout in the months leading up to the split. He traced the roots of his addiction to a serious hand injury that required surgery and kept him out of the boxing ring. “I couldn’t box, train or lift weights. That was all gone. My right hand was completely messed up,” Tommy shared. “I had lost my whole identity. I’d lost my life. I was drinking a lot.”

Tommy’s struggle with alcohol became so severe that he confessed he was too drunk to remember the moment Molly-Mae left him, taking their daughter with her. “I was actually drunk at that point. So I don’t actually remember it well, which was even more upsetting,” he said in the documentary. “I woke up one morning and everything was gone. Molly and the baby had gone. That was the moment I thought, ‘Wow, what’s going on?’ And that was the moment where I just started to try and change things around.”

The impact of Tommy’s addiction rippled through their family. His father and trainer, John Fury, revealed that he urged Molly-Mae to walk away for her own well-being, drawing on his experience with Tommy’s half-brother, Tyson Fury, who has also battled substance abuse. “I knew from dealing with Tyson that when the drinking started to come into play, I thought ‘Not again’,” John said. “I did say to Molly because she came to me with this stuff, you know, and I said ‘What you are best off doing with him, Molly, is walking away because if he is not gonna change himself, he doesn’t think that much of you, does he?’”

Speculation swirled online about the reasons for the couple’s breakup, with rumors of infidelity circulating. Tommy, however, has repeatedly denied cheating, insisting in interviews and his documentary that alcohol was the sole cause of their split. “The reason for our ending the relationship was alcohol,” he stated. “Cheating was never a thing. You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing.”

Molly-Mae, for her part, echoed these sentiments in Behind It All. She described the painful reality of loving someone who was struggling with addiction. “He wanted to have a family life but also have the life of a 25-year-old boy with no responsibilities and the two don’t go hand in hand. He’s never had an alcohol problem, it’s just that alcohol caused problems for us. It got to a point where I wasn’t really looking forward to anything because alcohol affected it so much.” She added, “I’m not breaking up with him because I don’t love him anymore, I’m breaking up with him because he hasn’t given me a single other choice.”

The split marked a period of intense self-reflection for Tommy. Alone in their home, he hit what he described as “rock bottom.” “It was a tough moment in my life, but everything happens for a reason. I’m not happy that I went through that, but I’m grateful for the lessons that I’ve learned, and I don’t think I would’ve known half of what I know about myself if I never went through that.”

Remarkably, the story did not end there. In the months following their separation, Tommy committed to sobriety—remaining alcohol-free for four months as of August 2025—and began the hard work of rebuilding his life and family. The couple’s journey back to each other was marked by small, hopeful signs: a shared kiss on New Year’s Eve, sightings together with Bambi, and whispers of reconciliation after Tommy was spotted at Molly-Mae’s home in February 2025. Reports also surfaced of a romantic Valentine’s Day retreat and the couple hiring a babysitter so they could spend quality time alone.

In August 2025, Tommy confirmed that he and Molly-Mae had rekindled their relationship, though they are now fiercely protective of their privacy. “So, in terms of my family life, everything is private now between me and Molly, and we’re in the happiest place possible. And that’s all that anyone needs to know!” he told Heart Breakfast. “Everyone’s entitled to a private life and so right now we’re going to live our private life, because we haven’t had that since we were 19 or 20 years old. It’s all been lived out in front of a camera or on the front page of a newspaper. So now, going forward, we’re finally going to take that private time.”

Molly-Mae, too, has expressed her commitment to their family. “I love Tommy so much and I love our family so much that I’m willing to ride the wave,” she said in her documentary. “And that’s not something that everyone wants to do, but it’s something that I’m willing to do because I want my family.” She acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting, “Obviously, he knows it’s the drink. He’s not drank now for what, four months? I don’t think the drink’s gone away forever. Do I think that drink could still be a problem for us, potentially? Yeah, but I think the break-up showed Tommy that I’m serious. He’s just really different these days.”

Tommy’s own words on Heart Breakfast underscored the depth of his feelings: “At the end of the day everything’s been out there publicly, but one thing I do want to say is, you know, they’re my family, it’s my daughter and Molly’s the girl that gave me Bambi, the best thing in my life, and will forever be the best thing in my life. I love them both until the day I die and we’re just going to handle everything in private because everything’s been out there for the public to see. But I think the next steps are definitely going to be in private.”

For now, Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague are choosing to step back from the spotlight, focusing on healing and building a future together—one marked by hard-won lessons, renewed hope, and a commitment to privacy after years of living in the public eye.
