Ted Lasso Returns This Summer With New Women’s Team

Apple TV+ revives its Emmy-winning comedy as Jason Sudeikis and the cast embark on a new chapter coaching a women’s football club in Season 4.

The beloved Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso is gearing up for a triumphant return, as the streamer has officially announced that Season 4 will premiere in the summer of 2026. After a hiatus that left fans wondering if the story had concluded for good following its third season finale in 2023, the news has sparked excitement and speculation about what’s next for the endlessly optimistic coach and his ever-evolving football family.

The announcement, confirmed by Apple TV in March 2025, marks a significant moment not just for the show’s passionate global fan base but also for Apple’s streaming ambitions. As reported by TVLine, Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV, shared, “Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fan base all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief. Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

This new season comes nearly two years after the presumed series finale aired on May 31, 2023. That episode saw Ted Lasso himself—played by Jason Sudeikis—returning to his hometown of Kansas City, while AFC Richmond’s future was left in the hands of Roy Kent, and Keeley Jones pitched Rebecca Welton on the idea of launching a women’s football team. It was a fitting sendoff, but also a tantalizing setup for a fresh chapter.

Now, with cameras rolling again, Ted Lasso Season 4 is breaking new ground. According to the official logline from Apple TV and confirmed by The Verge, “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.” This pivot not only brings a new dynamic to the show’s familiar formula but also reflects the growing prominence of women’s football in the real world.

Production officially kicked off on July 21, 2025, in Kansas City—Sudeikis’s own hometown—with additional filming planned in London. The first-look images released by Apple show Ted and several of the core cast members enjoying a meal at a Kansas City barbecue joint, hinting that the series will continue to blend its signature British and American sensibilities.

Fans of the original cast have plenty to look forward to. Jason Sudeikis returns in the titular role, joined once again by Emmy winners Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) and Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent). Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brendan Hunt (Willis Beard), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) are also back, ensuring continuity with the show’s roots. Notably, this season will not feature previous series regulars Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt), Nick Mohammed (Nathan “Nate” Shelley), Sarah Niles (Dr. Sharon Fieldstone), Anthony Head (Rupert Mannion), Toheeb Jimoh (Samuel “Sam” Obisanya), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas), Kola Bokinni (Isaac McAdoo), Billy Harris (Colin Hughes), and James Lance (Trent Crimm), at least as regulars—though guest appearances haven’t been ruled out.

The show is also welcoming a host of new faces. Tanya Reynolds (known for Sex Education), Jude Mack, Faye Marsay (Andor), Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, and Abbie Hern will join the ensemble. In a notable change, Grant Feely, recognized for his role as young Luke Skywalker in Obi-Wan Kenobi, will take over the role of Henry Lasso, Ted’s son, succeeding Gus Turner from the first three seasons.

Behind the scenes, there’s a fresh infusion of talent as well. Jack Burditt, an Emmy winner celebrated for his work on Modern Family and 30 Rock, joins as an executive producer under a new overall deal with Apple TV+. He’ll work alongside returning executive producers Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Brett Goldstein continues to wear multiple hats as both a writer and executive producer, alongside Leanne Bowen. Additional key contributors include Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh as co-executive producers and writers, Julia Lindon as a writer, and Dylan Marron as story editor. Sasha Garron is on board as co-producer. Bill Lawrence, who helped develop the series based on the preexisting format and characters from NBC Sports, remains an executive producer through Doozer Productions, collaborating with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television under NBCUniversal Content. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also return as executive producers.

Since its debut in 2020, Ted Lasso has been a critical and cultural phenomenon. The show’s first season became the most Emmy-nominated comedy series in history for a debut year, and it went on to win Best Comedy Series twice in its first two seasons. Across three seasons, the show has racked up an impressive 55 Emmy nominations and claimed 13 wins—a testament to its widespread acclaim and the affection it has garnered from audiences and critics alike.

The return of Ted Lasso comes at a pivotal time for Apple TV+. The streaming service has been working to expand its reach, rebranding itself, investing in live sports, and launching high-profile series such as Pluribus from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. As The Verge notes, bringing back one of its most popular and broadly appealing comedies is a strategic move that could help solidify Apple’s position in the increasingly competitive streaming landscape.

For many fans, the show’s enduring appeal lies in its blend of humor, heart, and hope. The move to focus on a women’s football team is both timely and refreshing, promising new challenges and opportunities for storytelling. The show’s creators and cast have consistently emphasized themes of kindness, resilience, and belief—values that have resonated deeply, especially during turbulent times.

With no exact release date yet announced, anticipation is running high. As Apple TV+ teases more details and first-look images, the sense of excitement is palpable. Will Ted’s signature optimism and unconventional coaching methods translate to success in the world of women’s football? Only time will tell, but if the show’s track record is any indication, viewers are in for another season of laughter, surprises, and the kind of feel-good moments that have made Ted Lasso a modern classic.

As the summer of 2026 approaches, fans can rest assured that Ted and his team will be ready to take the pitch once again—this time, with new faces, fresh challenges, and the same unbreakable spirit that has defined the series from the start.
