Shudder Unleashes Season Of Screams For Anniversary

The horror streaming service celebrates its 10th year with a four-month event packed with premieres, classic films, and interactive fan experiences.

Shudder, the all-horror streaming service that’s become a home for genre fans, is pulling out all the stops for its 10th anniversary in 2025. The platform has launched what it’s touting as its biggest programming event ever: the four-month-long "Season of Screams." Running from September through December, this event is more than just a celebration—it’s a statement, a testament to a decade of curating horror’s past, present, and future for a global audience.

According to Bloody Disgusting, "Season of Screams" is packed with premieres, live watch parties, special events, and a slew of beloved horror classics. The event aims to round out Shudder’s milestone year with a bang, spotlighting everything from iconic franchise films like REC, 28 Weeks Later, and The Blair Witch Project, to newer originals and returning fan-favorite series. It’s a four-month feast for horror fans, and Shudder promises it’s the most ambitious programming slate in its history.

What exactly can viewers expect? The lineup is staggering. There are premieres of highly anticipated films, such as Dangerous Animals (which debuted on September 5), Night of the Reaper (September 19), House on Eden (September 26), and OTHER (October 17). Each brings a unique flavor to the season: from shark-obsessed killers and haunted houses to chilling suburban mysteries and surreal homecomings. And that’s just scratching the surface.

One of the biggest highlights is the return of the cult-favorite V/H/S franchise. As Fangoria reports, V/H/S/Halloween—the eighth installment in the series—hits Shudder on October 3. The new anthology offers six Halloween-themed segments, each directed by a different filmmaker. Among the creative voices this year are Bryan M. Ferguson (Pumpkin Guts), Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks), Micheline Pitt-Norman and R.H. Norman (Cosmetic), Alex Ross Perry (Her Smell), Paco Plaza (REC), and Anna Zlokovic (Appendage). This fresh batch of stories promises to turn trick-or-treat into a blood-soaked struggle for survival—just the way fans like it.

But the anthology isn’t the only returning favorite. The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans is back for a second season starting October 7, bringing together fourteen fierce drag artists from past seasons to compete in challenges inspired by horror, sci-fi, and fantasy. The show’s pillars—Filth, Horror, and Glamour—are all on display as the competitors vie for a $100,000 grand prize and the coveted title of "Queen of the Underworld." This season, guest judges include horror royalty like David Dastmalchian, Jennifer Tilly, and Don Mancini, adding extra star power to an already electric lineup.

Meanwhile, the found footage subgenre gets its due with premieres like House on Eden and Hell House LLC: Lineage. The latter, directed by Stephen Cognetti, debuts on October 30 and revisits the haunted town of Abaddon, where recurring nightmares and unexplained deaths hint at a legacy of terror stretching back decades. Fans of the Hell House LLC series will find plenty to chew on as the mysteries of the Abaddon Hotel and Carmichael Manor continue to unfold.

Shudder’s commitment to horror’s roots is also evident in its library additions. This season, the platform is bringing back classics like The Bride of Frankenstein (celebrating its 90th anniversary), Hitchcock’s iconic collection (The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho), and cult favorites such as American Psycho, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Wolf Creek, High Tension, and When a Stranger Calls (1979). Whether you’re a fan of psychological suspense, supernatural chills, or outright gore, there’s something to revisit—or discover for the first time.

Of course, the event isn’t just about passive viewing. Shudder is hosting a series of live watch parties on Shudder TV at 9pm ET, where fans can tune in together for premieres and curated double features. These include everything from the debut of new episodes of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs (starting September 5) to themed nights like "Found Frights Watch Party" on October 10 and "Trick or Treat Watch Party" on Halloween night itself. The communal experience is at the heart of Shudder’s approach, and these events are designed to bring horror fans together—even if they’re miles apart.

Speaking of The Last Drive-In, Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl are back for new double-feature episodes, proving once again that the drive-in will never die. And for those looking for a more interactive experience, Shudder’s Halloween Hotline returns, with head of programming Samuel Zimmerman offering personalized movie recommendations based on each caller’s mood and preferences. It’s a service that’s become beloved among subscribers, and it’s back to help fans curate their own perfectly spooky weekends.

Another major draw is the return of The Creep Tapes for its second season, premiering November 14 exclusively on Shudder and AMC+. As reported by Bloody Disgusting, this six-episode season continues to explore the secret vault of the world’s most socially uncomfortable serial killer, played by Mark Duplass. The new season features an impressive lineup of guest stars, including David Dastmalchian, Robert Longstreet, Katie Aselton, Diego Josef, Desean Terry, Alec Bewkes, Linas Phillips, Taylor Garron, Timm Sharp, Jody Lambert, and Jeff Man. The show is produced by Duplass Brothers Productions and Shudder, with executive producers Mark Duplass, Patrick Brice, Mel Eslyn, Jay Duplass, and Chris Donlon, among others. Patrick Brice directs all episodes, ensuring the franchise’s distinctive blend of dark humor and creeping dread remains intact.

"Season of Screams" also features unique offerings like the resurrection of the beloved Ghoul Log—an hour-long video of a candlelit, sinister jack-o-lantern to set the seasonal mood (returning October 1)—and new specials like Joe Bob’s Splatterween (October 24), which marks the 200th episode of the series and promises a night filled with goo, live music from GWAR, and two gory flicks.

As the horror landscape evolves, Shudder’s 10th anniversary event stands as a showcase for both the genre’s enduring appeal and its constant reinvention. By blending nostalgia, innovation, and community engagement, "Season of Screams" cements Shudder’s role as a vital hub for horror lovers everywhere. For fans, it’s a season to savor—and perhaps, to scream just a little louder.
