Kerry Katona Reveals Two Miscarriages And Move To Spain

The former Atomic Kitten star discusses her pregnancy losses, health scare, and plans for a new life with partner Paolo Margaglione, sharing how her children are reacting to the upcoming move.

Kerry Katona, the former Atomic Kitten singer and television personality, has opened up about a difficult and emotional chapter in her life, revealing she suffered two miscarriages with her boyfriend, Paolo Margaglione, after unexpectedly becoming pregnant during the filming of the reality series Celebs Go Dating in April 2025. The couple, who met on the set of the E4 show, went public with their relationship in June 2025 and moved in together just two months later, marking a whirlwind start to their romance.

Katona, 45, shared her story during a candid interview with Paul C Brunson on the We Need To Talk podcast, sitting alongside Paolo, 33, as they recounted the events that unfolded during and after the show. According to Daily Mail, Paolo recalled, “Kerry was, unknowingly pregnant at the finale of Celebs Go Dating... I found out in the morning. I could smell it on her, like, weird. I said, ‘You’re pregnant.’”

Katona described how she began noticing hormonal changes, including persistent spots, which prompted her to take a pregnancy test. “We did a test in the night and it said no and I said I’ll do it early morning,” she explained. “And so we had an apartment at the hotel. I got up early, I’ll go do my meditation so I won’t wake him up and I peed on the stick. This is an exclusive, I’ve not gone public with this. Not told anybody this part from Anna. Don’t get jealous. And nothing came up. So I went to do meditation, I’m just gonna pop this spot, I went back and went [looks at pregnancy test] no, no, no, no way. I ran and woke him up. Seven years I never fell pregnant.”

The couple’s joy quickly turned to heartbreak. Katona revealed, “Unfortunately I miscarried and then we tried. And I’d miscarried again, only at four weeks. And I didn’t realise how much I wanted it then.” The pain of these losses was compounded by the emotional rollercoaster of their new relationship and the public’s ever-watchful eye.

According to BANG Showbiz, Katona reflected on the experience with a mixture of vulnerability and resilience. “And then the thought of having an abortion killed me. It felt like it was made from love… And unfortunately I miscarried and then we tried. And I’d miscarried again, only at four weeks. And I didn’t realise how much I wanted it then.”

The couple’s openness about their struggles has resonated with many. Katona, who is no stranger to life’s ups and downs, has five children from previous relationships: Molly, 23, and Lilly-Sue, 22, with Brian McFadden; Heidi, 18, and Max, 17, with Mark Croft; and Dylan-Jorge, 10, with her late husband George Kay. Paolo is also a parent to two young daughters, Milani and Nola, from a previous relationship.

This isn’t the first time Katona has faced such heartache. She bravely spoke about a prior miscarriage in 2015, following a rebound fling after the death of George Kay. In her memoir, Kerry Katona: Whole Again, she described becoming pregnant within two weeks of the brief romance, only to suffer a miscarriage that required an operation to remove the foetus from her womb. The pain of loss, both past and present, remains a poignant thread in her life story.

Despite the recent tragedies, Katona and Margaglione’s relationship has continued to grow. The pair have spoken about their desire to marry in the future, though they are in no rush. As Katona told OK! Magazine in February, “I’m not just doing it for the sake of doing it. We’re trying to build something really special together, so I want it to be the right moment.” Margaglione, for his part, is cautious about the prospect of expanding their family, citing Katona’s age and the potential health risks. “Obviously there are a lot of moving factors in that Kerry is of an age where there are a lot more complications and I’d much rather have her for life than create a life. I’d never say no to more kids, but I’m more reserved than Kerry because I want her to be healthy and happy.”

Katona’s personal life has been marked by significant changes over the past year. She ended her engagement to Ryan Mahoney in November 2024 after six years together, a split she described as deeply distressing. “It was disgusting what happened to me, the trust was just so vile,” Katona told Brunson. She admitted to feeling unhappy for much of the relationship, noting, “I wasn’t happy for, like, four years in that relationship. I think after being with George and then being with someone so mundane, like, Ryan was just safe and quiet, but not knowing who that person was because we didn’t converse.” The emotional toll was severe, with Katona revealing, “It made me really ill. I do realise how much I missed conversing and like if I was upset. It’d be, you know, on his phone like this. I’d have to ask for a hug, and sometimes I think I was actually seeking out attention from him by acting up just to try and get a bit of affection.”

Financially, the split was also costly. “He walked away with the Lamborghini Aventador, 100 grand Rolex, which I’m still paying for. The Cartier ring. And I had a big pay out just gone. I don’t know, there’s a lot more to it, but, I think for me it was just, I thought oh I’m sick of this.”

Adding to the challenges, Katona faced a health scare earlier this year. She was diagnosed with colitis after experiencing severe abdominal pain that led to an ambulance visit and a CT scan. “They said it’s colitis. I’ve never even heard of it. But it was horrendous, I thought I was in labour. Paolo wasn’t in, he was at work, I had to ring an ambulance. It was the night before we were meant to do our OK! Shoot together,” she recounted. Despite the ordeal, she reported having no further problems since the diagnosis.

Looking forward, Katona and Margaglione are planning a major move. The couple have announced they will relocate to Spain in September 2026, a decision that has prompted mixed reactions from Katona’s children. “Paolo and I have decided we’re moving to Spain in September and we’ve started looking at places. It’s really exciting but I’m also nervous. I’ve told the kids and they’ve had mixed feelings. Heidi isn’t happy, but our Molly said, ‘Good for you, Queen, you do you.’”

Katona explained that the closure of her youngest son’s school accelerated their plans. “I recently got a message announcing they are shutting DJ’s school down in July. Molly, Lilly and Heidi all went to that school, so I am truly gutted. Now we’re running around trying to get her into a different school, but they favour pupils who already have siblings who attend, so DJ’s been put on a waiting list.”

As Katona and Margaglione prepare for this new chapter, their story stands as a testament to resilience, vulnerability, and the enduring hope for happiness after hardship. Through heartbreak, health scares, and major life transitions, the couple continues to look ahead with determination—and a bit of nervous excitement about what comes next.
