For many, this level of certainty is a welcome contrast to the situation unfolding at other major European airlines. German carrier Lufthansa, for example, has canceled more flights for the summer than any other European airline, grounding at least 20,000 departures (many linked to the shutdown of its regional subsidiary CityLine), as reported by The Independent. EasyJet Holidays, TUI, and Irish airline Ryanair have all stated that booked holidays and flights will not be subject to fuel surcharges this summer. “At present, we’re not anticipating disruption to our flight schedules or holiday programmes from fuel shortages,” TUI said in a public statement. EasyJet echoed this sentiment, with a spokesperson confirming there was “no disruption to flights” and “no plans to make any changes to our flying schedule.” Ryanair, meanwhile, continues to monitor the situation closely, with CEO Michael O’Leary warning that only a prolonged crisis could eventually impact operations.
