The Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles’ storied outdoor amphitheater, has unveiled its 2026 summer season lineup, and it’s a showstopper. The program, revealed this week by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, promises a dazzling blend of musical genres, iconic headliners, and heartfelt tributes—all set against the Bowl’s legendary backdrop beneath the Hollywood Hills. For music lovers, casual fans, and families alike, there’s something truly special on offer this year.

At the heart of the 2026 season is a bittersweet milestone: the farewell celebration of Gustavo Dudamel, the LA Phil’s charismatic music and artistic director, who will conclude his remarkable 17-year tenure at the helm. Dubbed “Celebrating Gustavo at the Bowl,” this four-night event from August 20 to August 23 will showcase Dudamel’s musical vision, his favorite collaborators, and the extraordinary breadth of his impact on Los Angeles’ cultural life.

The Dudamel tribute kicks off on August 20 with an evening that’s bound to be historic. Dudamel will lead the LA Phil, the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA), and the Los Angeles Master Chorale in Beethoven’s monumental Ninth Symphony. The night will also feature the world premiere of a new orchestral and choral piece by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino, with lyrics penned by none other than Amanda Gorman, the celebrated poet who captured the nation’s attention at the 2021 presidential inauguration. According to Pollstar, the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus will bring Gorman’s words to life, ensuring a deeply moving experience for all in attendance.

On August 21, the celebration continues with “Dudamel’s Playlist,” a curated concert featuring surprise guest artists handpicked by Dudamel himself. While the exact lineup remains under wraps, organizers promise a “surprise-filled” night reflecting the maestro’s eclectic tastes and collaborative spirit. August 22 sees a true crossover event: the Foo Fighters, led by Dave Grohl, will join the LA Phil and YOLA onstage for a genre-blending performance that’s sure to thrill rock and classical fans alike. The final night, August 23, offers a genre-spanning concert that highlights Dudamel’s legacy and the orchestra’s versatility, weaving together classical, Latin, pop, and more.

But the Dudamel festivities are just one highlight in a season packed with musical variety and star power. The 2026 summer opens on June 20 with “The Best of Broadway,” a salute to musical theater classics performed by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Before that, jazz aficionados can mark their calendars for the Blue Note Jazz Festival on June 13 and 14. Hosted by Arsenio Hall, this two-night extravaganza features legends like Patti LaBelle, Wyclef Jean, Samara Joy, and Gregory Porter, alongside rising stars and youth ensembles, as reported by Pollstar.

Patriotic traditions remain strong at the Bowl. The annual Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular returns July 2-4, headlined by The Beach Boys, whose surf rock anthems like “Surfin’ USA” and “Good Vibrations” have become synonymous with California summers. Their performances, accompanied by the LA Phil and capped off with fireworks over the hills, continue a decades-long relationship with the Bowl, including memorable runs in 1965 and 2023. Actor John Stamos is also slated to join the festivities, adding another layer of nostalgia and fun.

June 19 brings a special Juneteenth celebration, led by Chance the Rapper, whose socially conscious lyrics and energetic performances embody the spirit of the holiday. Just days later, on June 21, Reggae Night XXIV takes over with Ziggy Marley and Burning Spear, honoring the roots and global reach of reggae music. The Roots Picnic Experience returns for its third edition on June 27, boasting appearances from hip-hop icons De La Soul, Nas, T.I., and more—a testament to the Bowl’s ongoing commitment to celebrating Black musical excellence and innovation.

Fans of instrumental pop and jazz will be delighted by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, who take the stage July 5, bringing their infectious brass sound that helped define 1960s Southern California. Later in the summer, on August 14, soul legend Al Green appears with The Womack Sisters, delivering timeless hits like “Let’s Stay Together” and “Tired of Being Alone.” These performances underscore the Bowl’s reputation for spotlighting artists whose influence spans generations.

St. Vincent, fresh off her 2024 album “All Born Screaming,” will join the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra on August 2, blending art rock with orchestral grandeur. Meanwhile, Jon Batiste, the Grammy-winning bandleader and composer, is set to perform September 27 as part of the KCRW Festival, further broadening the season’s musical horizons.

The Hollywood Bowl’s 2026 calendar doesn’t stop at music. The venue will also host cinematic celebrations, including tributes to film composers like Joe Hisaishi and John Williams, and performances of music from beloved movies such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and the films of Wes Anderson. According to Pollstar, these events, alongside family programs and sing-alongs, ensure that the Bowl remains a welcoming space for audiences of all ages.

For those eager to secure their spot under the stars, subscriptions and group sales are already available through the Bowl’s official website and phone lines. Blue Note Jazz Festival tickets went on sale February 18, with create-your-own packages launching March 24. The all-important single-show tickets become available to the general public on May 5, so mark your calendars—these concerts are expected to sell out quickly.

Since its opening in 1922, the Hollywood Bowl has stood as a beacon of live performance and cultural unity in Los Angeles. Its open-air setting, iconic bandshell, and storied history have made it a bucket-list destination for artists and audiences alike. As LA Phil President and CEO Kim Noltemy put it, “The Hollywood Bowl is one of Los Angeles’ great cultural treasures, bringing world-class music to audiences in a setting that is welcoming, joyful, and accessible to our local communities.”

This year’s season, with its thoughtful tributes, bold collaborations, and genre-defying lineup, reaffirms the Bowl’s unique role as both a guardian of tradition and a champion of innovation. Whether you’re drawn by the chance to bid farewell to a beloved conductor, dance to reggae rhythms, or sing along to Broadway classics, the 2026 Hollywood Bowl summer season promises unforgettable nights and lasting memories for all who attend.
