Dhurandhar The Revenge Shatters Bollywood Box Office Records

Ranveer Singh’s latest spy thriller storms past 500 crore worldwide in three days, setting new benchmarks for Indian cinema and outperforming recent blockbusters across multiple languages.

Bollywood has witnessed a seismic shift in its box office landscape this week, as Aditya Dhar’s spy-action sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has shattered records and set new benchmarks across India and abroad. The film, headlined by Ranveer Singh and featuring a star-studded ensemble including R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, Sara Arjun, and a special cameo by Yami Gautam, has become the talk of the town for both its staggering earnings and its cinematic scale.

According to The Economic Times, Dhurandhar: The Revenge stormed into theaters on March 19, 2026, following paid preview shows on March 18 that alone netted Rs 43 crore—one of the highest preview collections ever recorded for an Indian film. This early momentum only grew stronger, with the film collecting over Rs 100 crore nett on its official opening day and pushing its domestic earnings past Rs 145 crore within just two days. Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film’s Day 1 haul in the Hindi market, Rs 99 crore, outpaced the opening numbers of recent blockbusters like Jawan (Rs 75 crore), Pathaan (Rs 57 crore), Stree 2 (Rs 54 crore), and Animal (Rs 64 crore).

The momentum didn’t stop there. As the weekend progressed, Dhurandhar: The Revenge continued to defy expectations. On Day 2, Friday, the film collected Rs 80.72 crore net domestically, a slight dip as is typical, but by Day 3, Saturday, it rebounded spectacularly. Reports from Koimoi and Times Now confirm that the movie earned Rs 113 crore net across all languages on its third day, with the Hindi version alone bringing in Rs 102 crore. This figure not only eclipsed the highest single-day collection in Hindi cinema history—surpassing Pushpa 2’s Rs 86 crore—but also marked a 47% jump from the previous day’s earnings.

In just three days, the cumulative net total in India reached an estimated Rs 318 crore, with gross collections standing at Rs 375.24 crore. The film’s return on investment was swift and impressive; made on a budget of Rs 225 crore, it recouped its costs within the opening weekend and posted an estimated ROI of Rs 93 crore, or 41%, according to Koimoi. By March 21, the film’s net collection in India stood at Rs 339.37 crore, with a gross of Rs 404.54 crore, as reported by Times Now.

The film’s appeal extended well beyond Indian shores. Overseas, Dhurandhar: The Revenge grossed Rs 96.50 crore by the end of Day 3, pushing its worldwide gross to a staggering Rs 501.04 crore. Industry analysts suggest that, at this pace, the movie could close its debut weekend around the Rs 700 crore mark globally.

What’s particularly remarkable is the film’s performance across multiple languages. While the first installment was released only in Hindi, Dhurandhar: The Revenge premiered in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. On Day 3, the Hindi version minted Rs 105 crore, Telugu brought in Rs 5 crore, Tamil Rs 2.94 crore, Malayalam Rs 0.04 crore, and Kannada Rs 0.01 crore. The occupancy rates reflected the audience’s enthusiasm: overall occupancy on Day 3 reached 81.6%, with Hindi shows boasting an impressive 83% occupancy across nearly 19,000 screenings.

Over in North America, the film’s performance was also noteworthy. As reported by Forbes, Dhurandhar: The Revenge earned $2.97 million on March 20, down just 25% from its $3.94 million opening day. The two-day total stood at $6.9 million, and projections indicated a $10 million take over the March 20-22 weekend from 989 theaters. These numbers are particularly significant when compared to the original Dhurandhar, which opened post-Thanksgiving 2025 with $1.98 million and eventually grossed $19.7 million in North America by mid-January 2026. While still trailing the all-time Indian box office record in North America set by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion ($20.6 million), Dhurandhar: The Revenge is on track to challenge that milestone.

The film’s success is even more impressive given its daunting runtime of 3 hours and 49 minutes (229 minutes). Despite this, theaters reported packed houses and robust advance bookings, a testament to the film’s gripping narrative and the star power of its cast. The story follows Indian undercover spy Jaskirat Singh Rangi—alias Humza Ali Mazari—as he infiltrates the Lyari underworld, seeking not only to rise to power but to eliminate every threat that stands in his way. High-octane action sequences, political intrigue, and emotional depth have all contributed to the film’s broad appeal.

Critics and audiences alike have praised the performances, particularly that of Ranveer Singh, whose portrayal of the conflicted and determined protagonist has been widely lauded. Rakesh Bedi, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun also received accolades for their roles, while Yami Gautam’s special appearance added further star value. According to Times Now, “the movie is being lauded for the stellar performances given by every actor.”

Notably, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has now become Ranveer Singh’s second highest-grossing film in India, surpassing his previous hit Padmaavat (Rs 300.26 crore). Only the original Dhurandhar stands above it, with a net collection of Rs 894.49 crore. The sequel’s rapid ascent in the box office rankings underscores both the franchise’s popularity and the growing appetite for high-concept, large-scale Bollywood productions.

In the context of recent Indian cinema, Dhurandhar: The Revenge holds the second-highest opening ever across all Indian releases, trailing only Pushpa 2: The Rule. However, when focusing solely on the Hindi market, it outperformed even the Hindi version of Pushpa 2 on opening day—a major milestone for the industry.

Looking ahead, the film’s trajectory suggests it may continue to break records as it enters its second week. With strong word-of-mouth, critical acclaim, and packed theaters, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has not only rewritten the box office playbook but has also set a new standard for what’s possible in Bollywood’s blockbuster era.

For moviegoers and industry watchers alike, this is a moment to savor. Dhurandhar: The Revenge has delivered on its immense promise, captivating audiences and rewriting the record books—one ticket at a time.
