Dhurandhar Box Office Triumph Reshapes Bollywood Records

Ranveer Singh’s spy-thriller crosses Rs 1000 crore worldwide, outpaces rivals, and sets the stage for a highly anticipated sequel in 2026.

Ranveer Singh’s latest cinematic outing, Dhurandhar, has stormed the Indian and global box office, rewriting records and capturing the imagination of moviegoers across the world. Released on December 5, 2025, and directed by Aditya Dhar, the spy-thriller has not only proven its staying power but also set a new benchmark for Bollywood films, especially those not led by the industry’s traditional superstars.

According to Sacnilk, Dhurandhar minted around Rs 20.50 crore as of 10 pm on Saturday, December 27, 2025, bringing its total domestic collection to an impressive Rs 668 crore. The film’s journey, however, extends far beyond Indian shores. As reported by Hindustan Times, the movie crossed the coveted Rs 1000 crore mark worldwide by December 27, making it the ninth highest-grossing Indian film ever and the fourth Bollywood film to breach this milestone. Notably, Dhurandhar is the only film in the Rs 1000 crore club not starring a Khan, underlining Ranveer Singh’s growing star power and the film’s broad appeal.

On its 22nd day in theaters, Dhurandhar collected Rs 15 crore domestically, with the total domestic net standing at Rs 648.5 crore as of Friday night. This figure, according to Hindustan Times, made it the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever in India, surpassing the previous record held by Jawan (Rs 640 crore net). Internationally, the film has picked up remarkable momentum, earning over $25 million in overseas territories within 22 days, bringing the worldwide total to approximately Rs 1003 crore, with some estimates suggesting it may be as high as Rs 1020 crore.

The film’s opening was nothing short of spectacular, with a domestic debut of approximately Rs 28 crore. Over the subsequent three weeks, Dhurandhar continued to draw crowds, recording an overall theater occupancy of 28 percent on its third Friday: 15 percent in the morning, 32 percent in the afternoon, 35 percent in the evening, and 31 percent during night shows. These numbers reflect a rare consistency, even as new releases tried—and largely failed—to dent its dominance.

Competing films, such as Tu Mera Main Teri Main Tera Tu Meri starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, struggled to keep pace, earning just Rs 7.75 crore on its first day and around Rs 5 crore on its second day. In contrast, Dhurandhar pulled in Rs 26 crore on its opening weekend and maintained a robust Rs 15 crore on its third Friday, leaving competitors in the dust. Even the much-anticipated Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 by Kapil Sharma failed to make a dent, highlighting the sheer magnitude of Dhurandhar’s box office wave.

The film’s narrative, featuring Ranveer Singh as Hamza, an Indian operative infiltrating the gang and terror networks of Karachi, has struck a chord with audiences. The cast includes heavyweights like Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, and Sara Arjun, all contributing to the film’s critical and commercial success. The movie’s realism—especially in its action sequences—has drawn praise from industry veterans. Director Ram Gopal Varma, in an interview with NDTV, remarked, “In Dhurandhar, the action seems real, it is how it will happen and that is being liked so much more by the same crowd who watches over-the-top action.”

Ram Gopal Varma further compared the understated performance of Ranveer Singh to Sunny Deol’s iconic roles, saying, “He (Sunny Deol) says ‘Dhai kilo ka haath’, then he starts shouting and all that in the most unreal manner. And here, Hamza (Ranveer Singh) doesn’t even speak most of the time. I mean, you don’t even know what he’s thinking or what he’s up to and all that.” Such nuanced performances have resonated with both critics and viewers, fueling the film’s sustained momentum.

The audience response has been nothing short of euphoric. Sobhita Dhulipala, sharing her thoughts on Instagram, wrote, “DHURANDHAR Wow. Wow. Wow. Breathtaking. Mind blowing. Inspiring. Unlike any other. !!!Supreme!!!” Social media users echoed this sentiment, with one fan posting, “What a movie #dhurandhar. An absolute gem!! I know am too late to post a review but worth it. @AdityaDharFilms Guys, I am short of words, it’s very difficult to bring such story to public, it takes dedication and the guts to tell the truth. Can’t wait for 2nd part.”

The film’s impact has also been felt within the industry. Actor Danish Pandor, who plays Uzair Baloch, recalled his first meeting with Ranveer Singh: “I met him for the first time at the narration. I was sitting and Ranveer suddenly came from behind and hugged me and said, ‘Danish, we’ll kill it.’ He’s giving you so much motivation, his energy is so contagious, so vivacious as a person, he gives importance to everyone, he makes everyone feel so important about themselves.”

As Dhurandhar continues its triumphant run, it has already surpassed the lifetime box office records of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2. The film is now on the verge of overtaking Pathaan (Rs 1056 crore) and Kalki 2898 AD (Rs 1042 crore) to become the seventh-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Its next target is Jawan (Rs 1160 crore), though surpassing the likes of KGF Chapter 2 and RRR (both above Rs 1200 crore) may remain a tall order.

Looking ahead, the makers have already announced a sequel, Dhurandhar 2, scheduled for release on March 19, 2026. To avoid a major box office clash, Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan has been slated for April 17, 2026, sidestepping the date reserved for Dhurandhar 2. Meanwhile, fans eager to revisit the first chapter can look forward to its streaming debut on Netflix around January 30, 2026.

In a year crowded with big-budget releases and high expectations, Dhurandhar has not only lived up to the hype but also redefined what’s possible for Bollywood blockbusters. Its blend of gripping storytelling, powerful performances, and authentic action has set a new standard—one that audiences and filmmakers alike will be talking about for years to come.
