Chipotle Unveils Double Protein Burrito Vault For 2026

The fast-casual giant launches its biggest National Burrito Day game yet, offering over $2 million in prizes and a new high-protein twist for fans across the U.S. and Canada.

For Chipotle Mexican Grill, National Burrito Day has become more than just a quirky calendar event—it’s a full-on digital festival, and in 2026, the celebration is bigger, bolder, and, well, meatier than ever before. The beloved fast-casual chain has launched the Burrito Vault: Double Protein Edition, a gamified promotion with more than $2 million in prizes, inviting Chipotle Rewards members across the U.S. and Canada to crack the code and win everything from buy-one-get-one entrées to a year’s worth of free burritos.

This marks the third consecutive year that Chipotle has rolled out the Burrito Vault game, but this time, the stakes (and the protein) are higher. Starting at 9 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, March 30, and running through Wednesday, April 1, the digital vault opens every hour on the hour until 9 p.m. Players log into UnlockBurritoDay.com with their Chipotle Rewards account and face a delicious challenge: guess the exact combination of burrito ingredients—the Combo—to unlock a prize. They get four attempts per hour, and each guess brings feedback, letting them know which ingredients they’ve nailed and which are still a mystery. It’s a bit like a culinary version of Mastermind, but with a much tastier payoff.

“With more than 3.5 million plays last year, Burrito Vault generated record-breaking engagement with our fans,” said Stephanie Perdue, Chipotle’s interim chief marketing officer, in a statement reported by PR Newswire. “Bringing the game back for a third year allows us to build on that momentum while highlighting our clean protein as more consumers prioritize protein-packed meals that don’t compromise on quality.”

The big twist for 2026 is the introduction of the Double Protein Power Hour, a once-daily, randomly selected hour during which the number of available prizes doubles and every reward comes with a double helping of protein. During these special periods, the first two players to crack the Combo don’t just win free burritos for a year—they win Double Protein Burritos for a Year, each prize valued at $773.76. In regular hours, the grand prize is Burritos for a Year, which means one free entrée per week for 52 weeks, valued at $554.44. According to the official promotion rules published by Chipotle, a total of 33 Burritos for a Year prizes and six Double Protein Burritos for a Year will be awarded over the course of the event.

But it’s not just about the grand prizes. Every hour, up to 3,600 players who guess the Combo correctly can snag a Buy One Get One Free entrée code, worth up to $10.47, while the next 2,000 correct guessers receive a Double Protein Code for a free protein add-on, valued at up to $4.41. During the Double Protein Power Hour, these numbers jump dramatically: up to 7,200 Double Protein BOGO codes and 4,000 Double Protein Codes are up for grabs. All codes are valid through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on April 2 and can’t be combined with other offers. As the official rules clarify, the promotion is open to legal residents of all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Canadian provinces outside Quebec, aged 13 or older, provided they have a Chipotle Rewards account.

The gamified campaign is more than just a marketing stunt. It’s a reflection of a broader trend in consumer preferences. According to Google Trends data cited by QSR Magazine and Chipotle’s own press release, interest in “protein” and “high protein” options has hit record highs in 2026, with 62% of consumers reporting they’re more likely to order from protein-rich menu sections. Chipotle has responded by introducing a High Protein Menu featuring items with 15 to 81 grams of protein, including the Double High Protein Bowl, the High Protein–High Fiber Bowl, and even a new snack called the High Protein Cup.

“The game highlights Chipotle’s clean protein,” Perdue emphasized, pointing to the brand’s commitment to quality ingredients. It’s a message that seems to resonate, as more diners seek out meals that are both satisfying and aligned with their nutritional goals. The Double Protein Power Hour, with its focus on extra protein, is clearly designed to tap into this growing demand.

And if you’re not the competitive type? Chipotle hasn’t forgotten you. On National Burrito Day itself—Thursday, April 2—Chipotle is offering a $0 delivery fee on digital orders placed through its app or website in the U.S. and Canada. Customers just need to use the code DELIVER at checkout to redeem the offer. (Fine print: higher menu prices may apply for delivery, and there are some restrictions, including a minimum order amount and exclusions for third-party delivery platforms.)

The Burrito Vault is just one of several digital promotions Chipotle has rolled out in recent years to engage its loyal fanbase. Past campaigns have included the Chipotle IQ trivia game and the AvoLotto Sweepstakes, which used augmented reality to celebrate National Avocado Day. But the Burrito Vault, with its blend of puzzle-solving and real-world rewards, has quickly become a fan favorite. Last year’s version racked up more than 3.5 million plays, and the company is hoping to break that record in 2026.

To participate, players simply need to enroll in Chipotle Rewards (it’s free) and log into UnlockBurritoDay.com during the promotion window. Each Drawing Period—a one-hour slot—offers a fresh chance to win. The vault code resets every hour, and prizes are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The grand prize goes to the first player to guess the Combo in each Drawing Period, so speed and burrito knowledge are both essential.

Chipotle’s digital engagement strategy seems to be paying off. The company, which operates more than 4,000 restaurants across the U.S., Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, has become the only restaurant company of its size to own and operate all its locations in North America and Europe. With a workforce of over 130,000, Chipotle continues to lead the way in digital innovation, sustainable business practices, and, apparently, high-stakes burrito games.

For Chipotle fans, National Burrito Day isn’t just about grabbing a quick bite—it’s about joining a nationwide game, testing your burrito-building savvy, and maybe, just maybe, scoring a year’s worth of free food. As the excitement builds and the protein piles up, one thing is clear: this year’s Burrito Vault is the most rewarding—and protein-packed—yet.
