Channel 4 has unveiled its latest drama series, Deadpoint, a five-part action thriller set against the breathtaking and perilous backdrop of Wales’ Eryri National Park. Announced on September 9, 2025, and produced by the acclaimed Clerkenwell Films, the series brings together a stellar cast including Callum Scott Howells, Michael Socha, Annes Elwy, and Emmy-nominated Christine Tremarco. With filming now underway in Wales, Deadpoint promises viewers a suspenseful tale that intertwines personal tragedy, extremist threats, and the raw beauty of the Welsh mountains.
The premise of Deadpoint is as gripping as its setting. The story follows a tight-knit group of Welsh climbers whose world is shattered by a tragic accident during a mountaineering expedition. Aaron, played by Callum Scott Howells—known for his roles in It’s a Sin and The Beautiful Game—shoulders the blame for the disaster. Wracked with guilt, Aaron abandons his hometown, leaving behind his furious sister Seren, portrayed by Annes Elwy (Wolf, Little Women). After a year abroad, Aaron is drawn back home when Seren fails to return from what should have been a routine climb. To find her, he must confront his own deep-seated fear of climbing, returning to the mountains that haunt him.
Unbeknownst to Aaron, the mountains are now the staging ground for a far more sinister threat. An extremist far-right group, the self-styled Justice Crusade, is on a mission of its own. Led by the charismatic yet unstable former soldier Fairweather (Michael Socha, Showtrial, The Gallows Pole), the group’s plans are shrouded in secrecy and danger. As the Justice Crusade’s internal fractures begin to show, their volatility grows, heightening the stakes for everyone on the mountain.
Meanwhile, senior Detective Natasha Evermore, played by Christine Tremarco (Adolescence, The Gathering), is hot on the trail of Fairweather and his followers. Having tracked the group for some time, Detective Evermore is convinced that their recent activities signal something big on the horizon. Her pursuit brings yet another thread of tension to the already fraught wilderness, as these disparate stories converge in the unforgiving landscape of Eryri.
Channel 4 has described Deadpoint as “a literal cliffhanger, grounded in the tensions existing in our society today.” The show is more than just a high-octane thriller; it delves into contemporary issues of radicalisation, loss, and the bonds that tie communities together in the face of adversity. According to Channel 4’s Interim Head of Drama, Gwawr Lloyd, “Deadpoint is a bold and incredibly tense thriller that places characters and their journeys at the heart of high-stakes action. Matt Hartley’s debut script is as gripping as it gets and all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Eryri mountain range. We’re delighted to be working with Clerkenwell Films and the brilliant cast and crew; this series promises to be as thought-provoking as it is pulse-raising.”
The production boasts an impressive ensemble cast, further enriching the series’ emotional and narrative depth. Alongside the leads, the cast includes Gary Lewis (Franklin), John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Sam Keeley (Kin), Martin McCann (Blue Lights), Fflyn Edwards (The Crown), Emily Stott (Foundation), Ellora Torchia (Midsommar), Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody), Michael Jibson (No Return), Crystal Condie (Dear England), Siôn Alun Davies (Hidden), Oliver Finnegan (The Watchers), Rhodri Meilir (In My Skin), and Arthur Hughes (Shardlake).
The creative force behind Deadpoint is debut TV series writer Matt Hartley, who has previously contributed to EastEnders and Hollyoaks. Hartley is also working on an adaptation of GR Halliday’s novel From the Shadows for ITV. For Deadpoint, Hartley’s script is brought to life by lead director Marco Kreuzpaintner (The Lazarus Project), with additional episodes helmed by Laura Scrivano (The Lazarus Project, Wedding Season). The executive production team features Andy Baker, Charlie Langdell, Wim de Greef, Petra Fried, Hartley, and Kreuzpaintner, with Adam Knopf producing and Christopher J. Thomas co-producing.
The show’s production is supported by the Welsh Government through Creative Wales, underscoring the importance of local talent and scenery in bringing this uniquely Welsh story to a global audience. BBC Studios, Clerkenwell’s parent company, is managing international sales, ensuring that Deadpoint reaches viewers far beyond the UK. As highlighted by Deadline and The Future of the Force, filming commenced in Wales in early September 2025, with the dramatic peaks of Eryri National Park providing a visually stunning—and narratively fitting—setting for the unfolding drama.
Executive producer Andy Baker of Clerkenwell Films expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We couldn’t be more excited to be making Deadpoint with C4, BBC Studios and Creative Wales. Matt’s created a gripping thriller with a depth and complexity that speaks to our very divided times, and we have a brilliant pair of directors, a fantastic crew and a truly amazing cast bringing it to life.”
At its core, Deadpoint is not just about suspense and survival in the wilderness. It’s a story that probes the psychological scars left by trauma, the allure and danger of extremist ideologies, and the enduring strength of family ties. The series asks difficult questions about who we are, who we pretend to be, and what we do when the rope snaps—both literally and metaphorically. As Channel 4’s description puts it, the show “explores who we are, who we pretend to be, and what we do when the rope snaps.”
The anticipation surrounding Deadpoint is palpable, with industry observers noting its timely relevance and cinematic ambition. The decision to set the story in Eryri National Park, an area renowned for its rugged beauty and challenging terrain, amplifies the sense of danger and isolation that permeates the narrative. The mountains themselves become a character—beautiful yet unforgiving, a place where personal demons and societal tensions collide.
With its blend of high-stakes action, emotional storytelling, and exploration of pressing social issues, Deadpoint is poised to become one of Channel 4’s most talked-about dramas of the year. As the production continues in Wales, audiences both at home and abroad are eagerly awaiting the moment when this literal and figurative cliffhanger reaches their screens.
For Channel 4, Deadpoint represents a bold step in contemporary drama, marrying local storytelling with global themes and a world-class cast. As the series heads toward its broadcast date, all eyes are on the Welsh mountains—and the secrets they’re about to reveal.
